When a car is scrapped, it goes through an extensive dismantling process to recover and recycle its parts.
The process typically begins with draining the oil and fuel out of the engine, followed by removing any hazardous materials such as batteries, tyres, exhaust systems and catalytic converters.
Once these dangerous components have been removed, the car is then disassembled into smaller parts that are easier to dispose of.
The parts are categorised into three groups: metals (such as aluminium and steel), plastics (including bumpers and dashboard trims) and other components (like electrical wiring).
